Success at Neptune Head 2014

On Saturday, 8th Nov, Commercial Rowing Club braved the elements to compete at Neptune Head in Blessington.

It rained incessantly; well done to those who came prepared with proper rain-gear, umbrellas, wellingtons, thermal tops, change of clothing, etc.

Perhaps one of our biggest entries to date, we entered an amazing 24 boats this year (including three composite crews).  By contrast, we entered just 13 crews in 2013.  These numbers are very encouraging for the 2014/15 season.commercial-numbers-octuplet

Congrats to the Boys J16 eight, who have shown much improvement over the past few months, to win their category and crossed the line in a time of 13:54.  The J16 boys also put up a good fight in the 4X+, coming second out of eleven crews.

The Girls J16 eight showed great composure and textbook technique to cross the line in 15:30, over a minute ahead of Carlow.  The J16 girls put on a convincing display in the 4X+, coming over the line just three seconds behind Offaly.

The Commercial Men’s Veterans squad showed great maturity to win the Mens Masters 8 event ahead of arch-rivals Old Collegians.

The Men and Women’s Club 2 squads (which included many of our DIT colleagues) are also shaping up well for 2015.  The men won the Club 2 eight ahead of Commercial ‘B’ (a novice crew), while the Women’s Club 2’s did well to enter several novice & club crews in the 8 and 4X+ events.

A lot of planning and effort is required to make a an event like this run smoothly, and the captain would like to thank Trailer drivers (Alan & Bill), Andy and Lia (DIT) and all of the coaches for their huge commitment.  We had great representation at all levels on Saturday, which can only be good for the year ahead.

Next up, Head-of-the-Shannon (Carrick-on-Shannon), 6th December.  Be sure to get your entries to the secretary on time.
