With just 40 days remaining to the National Championships, Commercial Rowing Club clocked up many promising victories over the weekend at Carlow regatta: –
Mens
Alan’s Commercial ‘A’ Junior 15 quadscull won their event. The crew was stroked by Peter Guillispi ,3 James O’Neill, 2 Cian Lynch, bow Michael Lynch and coxed by Daniel. They rowed with great composure to beat Carlow by one-and-a-half-lengths on home ground in the final.
Womens
Eimear Lambe and Eimear Higgins teamed up to win the women’s Junior 18 A double sculls. This double looked very tidy indeed and they seemed to be in control of the race from the start.
The Junior 15 squad had a prolific outing at Carlow. Norah’s girls won the Junior 15 coxed quads ahead of St Michaels. The crew included Rachel McDermott, Grainne Mac Namara, Siobhan Maxwell, Alana O’ Rourke and expertly coxed by Kevin Creehan.
Commercial’s Junior 15’s also confidently stormed ahead of Fermoy RC to win their double-scull event by ‘a distance’. Indeed, Commercial’s second J15 double also won their straight final ahead of SMRC.
Aisling Keogh won the Junior 14 single sculls ahead of New Ross. Aisling has improved enormously in the past months and seems set to be a new force in Irish Rowing in 2015.
Meanwhile, the Commercial Women’s Senior 4-, racing at London Metropolitan Regatta, came a very close second in their final and seem well placed for the Irish National Championships on July 11th.
